St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oklahoma City, OK announces its new dean, the Rev. Canon Katie Churchwell.

Oklahoma Bishop Poulson Reed described Churchwell an “inspirational, energetic and visionary leader. She’s going to bring all kinds of wonderful qualities to our Cathedral and our Diocese as a whole.”

Churchwell comes to us from the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in St. Petersburg, FL. As Canon for Community Formation, Churchwell worked both within the church and in the larger St. Petersburg to integrate the Cathedral into the vibrant community that is St. Pete.

Churchwell served as president of the Downtown Business Association and Director of the Food Is Medicine St. Pete collaborative – a program that brings free health education, health screenings, and fresh produce to food desert communities.

She grew up in Arizona, graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and obtained her Masters of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. She is a Certified Facilitator of The Daring Way.

Her first call was in Houston, Texas, where her first two children were born. She and her husband Logan moved to St. Petersburg in 2016 and welcomed their third and final child into the family in summer of 2019.

Churchwell will join the St. Paul’s community starting August 1. She said, “I look forward to partnering with each and every one of you as we, in these strange days, continue to share the message of God’s love for God’s people.”
