Inner Sanctuary Institute Level 1: Internal Family Systems for Spiritual Care & Leadership
Inner Sanctuary Institute Level 1 is a 120-hour, immersive ecumenical and inclusive training for clergy and spiritual leaders who want to integrate the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model into pastoral care, spiritual direction, leadership, and their own spiritual formation.
IFS begins with a deeply hopeful understanding of human nature: that we are spiritual and material, that every part of us carries a story and an intention, and that beneath the protective strategies and wounds we carry is a core Self capable of compassion, curiosity, courage, clarity, connection, and wise leadership.
Through teaching, experiential practice, demonstrations, small-group work, and supported practice, participants learn to recognize and work compassionately with protective parts, wounded or exiled parts, internal polarizations, personal and inherited burdens, and the dynamics that arise within relationships. The training gives particular attention to developing Self-led presence, the capacity to accompany another person without trying to fix, manage, or spiritually bypass what is arising.
For clergy, IFS offers a powerful framework for understanding what many spiritual traditions have long described: an inherent goodness within us that can become obscured by fear, pain, and protective patterns, yet remains available as a source of wisdom, compassion, and connection.
 ISI Level 1 brings the depth of IFS into conversation with spirituality, pastoral identity, and the particular demands of religious leadership. Participants are invited to deepen their ability to accompany others while also developing a more compassionate and trustworthy relationship with their own inner lives.
