The Rt. Rev. Andrew ML Dietsche, Bishop, the Episcopal Diocese of New York, and Bruce Macleod, President, Board of Trustees, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, have announced the appointment of The Rt. Rev. Clifton “Dan” Daniel III as the 10th Dean of the Cathedral, effective immediately.

Dean Daniel has been serving as Interim Dean of the Cathedral since March of last year. He previously served as Provisional Bishop of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of General Theological Seminary in New York as well as serving on the Board of Trustees of the Church Pension Group.

With over 40 years of experience as a bishop and church leader, the Dean is poised to steward the Cathedral’s growth. Describing his past year’s work at the Cathedral, Dean Daniel said, “I have really enjoyed my time here, getting to know all of the people who make up the Cathedral’s vast community, advancing our mission to be a house of prayer for all people, and envisioning how to propel us long into the 21st century. I’m honored and excited to be given an opportunity to continue that work in a more permanent capacity.”

Bishop Dietsche, in making the announcement, expressed his gratitude, congratulating Daniel on continuing his journey at the Cathedral and with the New York Diocesan community. Bishop Dietsche said, “The months since Dan first joined us have been simply transformational in the life and mission of our Cathedral. I am pleased that the dean has also found a church family in our cathedral community, and grateful for the blessings he has received in this city, diocese and ministry.”
