UPDATE: Diocese of Hawai’i announces 3 candidates for next bishop
[Episcopal News Service] The standing committee of the Diocese of Hawai’i announced March 12 that the diocese’s bishop search committee had released a slate of two candidates for the diocese’s sixth bishop, to succeed Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick by the end of this year.
“We had phenomenal applicants who have undergone rigorous review and entered into mutual discernment with us,” the standing committee said in a message to the diocese. The two candidates are:
- The Rev. Andrew J. Arakawa, canon for ministry formation, Diocese of Hawai’i, Honolulu.
- The Rev. Timothy J. Yanni, rector of Church of St. John the Baptist, Phoenix, Arizona.
Additional nominations will be considered by petition through March 19. Events allowing Episcopalians to meet the candidates are scheduled for April 23-26. The bishop election is scheduled for May 16 at a special meeting of the diocesan convention. The consecration of the new bishop, pending majority consent of churchwide authorities, would take place Nov. 14.
