South Carolina bishop responds to recent violence

Posted Jul 13, 2016

[Episcopal Church in South Carolina] Recent violence in our country has raised levels of anxiety and of threat for us all.  Whether the violence originates from frustration, anger, or retaliation, the results permeate society – across races, classes, and ethnicities.  As people of this land, we all are affected.

At this time, we remember and pray for the victims and their families, first of all.  We also keep the communities most affected in our prayers.  And we do not neglect to pray for the perpetrators, the society of which we are a part, and ourselves.

May our further responses indicate care for the greater good, rather than the hasty reaction of anger toward individuals.  Finally, may our prayers and our actions be guided by the One who died a violent death so that peace and love might be victorious, in this life and in the life to come.

Faithfully,
The Right Reverend Charles G. vonRosenberg
