Returning Festival of Choirs invites singers to Cambridge, England in August 2027
Festival of Choirs Ltd is delighted to announce the return of its eponymous Festival to Cambridge, U.K. from Aug. 3-8, 2027. Following the conspicuous success of the inaugural Festival, which took place in the historic University city last month, this landmark event will bring together choirs and individual singers from around the world for an inspiring week of music-making, learning, and cultural exchange.
Highlights of the Festival include a special concert by The Tallis Scholars, one of the world’s most celebrated vocal ensembles, and a guest appearance by the renowned British composer and conductor Sir John Rutter. The Director of the London Bach Choir and sometime Director of the Yale Schola Cantorum, David Hill MBE, will also be in attendance and will work directly with visiting choirs and their conductors.
Participants will be hosted by Cambridge University’s Schola Cantorum, the university’s elite choir whose members are drawn from its 31 colleges. Visiting choirs and individuals will experience the unique atmosphere of Cambridge by staying in college accommodation and dining by candlelight in one of the university’s historic halls.
Each participating choir will perform both a concert in one of the city’s historic churches and can opt to sing a Choral Evensong in a Cambridge college chapel. Individual singers will form a Festival Choir to present similar performances. The Festival will culminate in a grand closing concert of Mozart’s Requiem, performed by all participating singers with a professional orchestra in the magnificent setting of Great St Mary’s Church, the historic University Church in the center of Cambridge.
Alongside the formal music program, participants will enjoy a variety of cultural and social activities, including a garden buffet dinner, guided tours, singing lessons, punting on the River Cam, tea at the famous Grantchester Orchard, and performances by local ensembles.
