Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,

In these days after the presidential election, many are experiencing fear and uncertainty.  We write to you as your bishops to assure you that we stand against any efforts to harass or intimidate Latino/Hispanic persons.  We stand for a just immigration policy that allows families to stay together and provides a path to citizenship.  We stand for the promise we make in the Baptismal Covenant to “work for justice and peace and respect the dignity of every human being.”   We stand with you not only symbolically, but will be there to stand with you literally if and when the time comes.

We pray for you in the words of Scripture; “Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:10.

Un Mensaje de los Obispos de Virginia a los Feligreses de Nuestras Congregaciones Latinas

Amados Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

En estos días después de las elecciones presidenciales muchas personas tienen miedo y sienten incertidumbre. Como sus obispos, le aseguramos que estamos juntos con ustedes en contra de cualquier esfuerzo de intimidar o hostigar a personas Latinas/Hispanas. Estamos juntos con ustedes al defender políticas de inmigración justas que permitan que las familias permanezcan juntas y proporcionen un camino a la ciudadanía. Estamos juntos con ustedes en la promesa que hacemos en el Pacto Bautismal para “luchar por la justicia y la paz entre todos los pueblos y respetar la dignidad de todo ser humano.” Estamos juntos con ustedes no solo simbólicamente pero también estaremos con ustedes literalmente cuando llegue el momento.

Oramos por ustedes usando las palabras del profeta Isaías diciendo, “No tengas miedo, pues yo estoy contigo; no temas, pues yo soy tu Dios. Yo te doy fuerzas, yo te ayudo.” Isaías 41:10
