Phase 1 Mural Project. Photo by Lucy Helms

Lucy Helms, a graduating high school senior and active member of Christ Church, was inspired to organize an art project to commemorate the congregation’s time in quarantine. She wanted a way to recognize the seniors and people who lost out on major events and experiences because of the shelter in place. It evolved into something to celebrate our collective experience through Covid-19 and how we endured as a community.

With respect to 6 foot distancing and sanitizing regulations, Lucy planned the design wisely. She structured a participation schedule then invited the CEC Community to paint a tile of something that helping them through this strange time.

Under the theme ‘‘THE AGE OF LOVE, CEC MADE IT THROUGH COVID-19 TOGETHER 2020’ and in a matter of weeks, the Mural was completed and mounted.

Lucy Helms has been a social justice advocate since the age of 13. She will be attending Smith College in the fall, playing on the Women’s Softball Team, Go Pioneers!  Also, Lucy is the proud recipient of a P.E.O. STAR Scholarship.
