Chaplain (PT)

Esperanza Academy seeks a part-time Chaplain to support the spiritual life of our school community. Grounded in Episcopal traditions, the Chaplain leads worship, provides pastoral care, and cultivates an environment consistent with Esperanza’s commitment to equitable, justice-centered education. This is a part-time nine-month role (20 hours/month, approx. 5 hours/week). We welcome applications from ordained Episcopal clergy members and from laypeople with significant experience in spiritual leadership alike; both are equally encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead chapel services that reflect student interests and concerns and draw on Episcopal traditions to broaden students’ faith perspectives

• Provide pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff

• Convene and lead meetings of the student Chapel Leadership Team

• Bring a restorative justice-centered approach to chapel, weaving its themes and practices into services and pastoral care

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; M. Div. or equivalent theological education preferred

• Meaningful experience working with children, ideally middle-school-aged, and prior experience in chaplaincy or pastoral roles, preferably within a school setting

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster interfaith understanding

Salary range: $12,000 for a nine-month contract
