The Most Rev. Sally Sue Hernández García is new primate of the Anglican Church of Mexico

[Anglican Communion News Service] On March 21, the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Mexico elected the Most Rev. Sally Sue Hernández García as its new primate, succeeding the Most Rev. Enrique Treviño Cruz.

In announcing the selection, the Very Rev. Belina Carranza Lopez, secretary general of the province, said, “We celebrate with faith and hope, praying to our Lord Jesus Christ that this event will bring renewal and continuity to the mission and ministry of the church, inspire us to bear witness to God’s transforming love in our lives, and enable us to continue on this path together, steadfast and moving forward.”

Hernández García, 48, had served as bishop of the Diocese of Mexico, based in Mexico City, since 2022.

She also has been involved in Anglican Communion initiatives, participating on the Commission Theological for the Anglican Communion and as a representative of the Anglican Church of Mexico on the International Anglican Roman Catholic Commission for Unity and Mission.

The province of Anglican Church of Mexico was established in 1994 and includes the Diocese of Mexico, the Anglican Diocese of Cuernavaca, the Northern Diocese, the Western Diocese and the South-Eastern Diocese.
